It’s the one baseball sports betting series that garners national media attention and even casual sports fans will give some attention to – a Red Sox vs. Yankees set. Add in the fact it takes place in late August and it turns up the anticipation. For those interested in the sports betting side, this matchup always attracts the more betting volume than any other series, usually by a significant margin. The Red Sox went into Toronto this week for a three game series prior to the hosting the Yankees this weekend.

Heading into the sports betting online Blue Jays series, Boston had lost nine of their last ten road games, but Toronto proved to be the perfect tonic as the Red Sox won the first two games and now look for the sweep in Thursday night’s game. The Yankees have the night off as they fly in from the West Coast after having taken two out of three from Oakland. If Boston wins Thursday they will be 6 ½ games behind New York in the American East. The Red Sox are tied with the Texas Rangers for the wild card spot and hope to have Tim Wakefield back in the rotation by next week.

Kazakhstan is the first Muslim country, as well as the first former SU satellite state, to hold the reins of the major intergovernmental security organization OSCE. According to Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev, the OSCE chairmanship holds a symbolic and historic significance for the organization. Kazakhstan’s outstanding foreign relations will make the country an ideal mediator for several international conflicts.

The new OSCE leadership also expresses the mutual interests of the CIS countries according to Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko. The president recently held a meeting with the current OSCE chairman, Kanat Saudabayev. The Kazakh state secretary and foreign minister agrees with Nursultan Nazarbayev regarding his statement that Kazakhstan was given its position as OSCE chairman to represent the CIS nations. As a member of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Belarus announced its support for the priorities that were set by Kazakhstan.

Hoping for the full implementation of Kazakhstan’s priorities, Belarus claims that it has always been an advocate of the Kazakhstan OSCE chairmanship. According to President Lukashenko, the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe is currently struggling with an issue regarding positions, and Belarus assures its full support for Kazakhstan in working out solutions for this challenge.

In response to this, Kanat Saudabayev invited the Belarus president, in behalf of the Kazakhstan president, to attend this year’s OSCE summit in Astana. The OSCE chairperson says that an informal session of the OSCE Council of Foreign Ministers will be held in Almaty in the summertime in order to formulate and finalize the upcoming Astana summit.

Kanat Saudabayev adds that although an air of ambivalent attitude towards the summit’s agenda prevails inside the organization, everyone in the group agrees with the importance of holding the meeting. Additionally, Saudabayev also placed an emphasis over the unity among CIS member states by citing the recent CIS Council of Foreign Ministers in Moscow.

I have travelled all over the globe, but for some reason my travels have never taken me through Russia. Obviously there were times in history when Russia was a bit of a no go area, but now that that situation had changed,. I thought it was about time that I added another country to the map of where I have been in the world! I started to investigate the country from the comfort of my computer seat, and I soon started to realise that I had been missing out all these years for not considering taking a trip to Russia. It seemed like a very exciting place to be with all sorts of things to do.

The first thing that caught my eye was the chance to fly in a MIG 29. This is a very famous fighter jet, and opportunities like this don’t come around too often. Add to that the chance to experience space travel by visiting the Russian space training centre outside of Moscow, and you can see how much fun it is possible to have in this great country. I was determined that I would visit the space centre. I had grown up imagining that I would be an astronaut when I grew up! Now that I am the ripe old age of forty I think that I finally have to accept that it is not going to happen, but how fantastic to be able to pretend, though, if only for one day.

Russia is not all about having fun though. I think it is important to reflect on all of the bad things that have happened there to gewt a good perspective of what it is like today. It is for this reason that I will be visiting the military museum to learn more about the borodino panorama.

The best man always has a difficult job to do. He has to organise all of the stag’s mates to a place that everyone can get to, and he has to work out something for everyone to do and he has to make sure that everyone will be able to participate in all of the activities, and he has to try and make sure that the stag will have a great time! Phew! I’m tired even thinking about it! There are easier ways of course. If you are having to plan this stag do then maybe the best thing to do is to leave it to the experts. That’s right – there are people out there who actually organise events like this for a living. There is a company called Eclipseleisure.co.uk who specialise in organising stag and hen weekends. This should be music to your ears because these guys really know how to throw a party! They know all of the best places to go, and they will take all of the stress out of your hands.

All you need to do is to decide where the best location would be for all the people attending, and try to think what sort of activities would be suitable for the people involved .Let your party organiser do the hard work of finding the right places to go, while you sit back and relax in the knowledge that everything is being taken care of. You can even go crazy, because the planners can even organise your stag weekends in Europe!

Stretched across 117 small islands in the marshy Venetian Lagoon along the Adriatic Sea in northeast Italy, Venice, with its world famous canals has so much to offer for a short city break.

Bridges

The Rialto Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs are probably the two most famous bridges in Venice. The Rialto was the first bridge to cross the Grand Canal and dates back to the 1500s. The Bridge of Sighs got its name from the prisoners who walked over the bridge before being held in the dungeon or executed, so the sighs came from realising that the view through the bridge’s cutwork was their last view of Venice. There are smaller bridges all over Venice that cross the canals but be aware, it is very easy to get lost if you wander around and start crossing over bridges. The best views of the bridges are from the canal, so get yourself on a gondola tour and keep your camera handy!

Murano

Located north of Venice, Murano is famous for its decorative hand-blown glass. For a glass souvenir, bargain with the shops for lower prices than the Venice shops. The glass factories send boats over to St. Mark’s Square to lure over customers, take advantage of the free boat over and get the Vaporetto water bus back.

Piazza San Marco

St. Mark’s Square is the main square in Venice and has long been a central meeting place for Venetians and tourists. The square has a clock tower, the Basilica, restaurants, bars and shops. For a refreshment, head to Café Florian, dating back from the 1700’s and still popular today.

Basilica San Marco

The present St. Mark’s Basilica dates back to 1063. The ornate building is filled with amazing mosaics, domes, statues and the High Altar that allegedly contains the remains of St. Mark. This church is a must-see for any tourist to Venice!

Gondolas

Although many will tell you the gondolas of Venice are a tourist trap and can be quite expensive, where else can you have the experience of riding an authentic Venetian gondola? A gondola ride can be very romantic if taken around dusk, and if the price seems too high, the ride can be split with others; bargaining is also permissible for a better price. If you don’t want to be shocked and taken advantage of, make sure to ask the price before taking the ride. The rides usually last from 45-50 minutes and will take you around the canals of Venice.

Lido

Lido is an island between Venice and the sea located between the lagoon and the Adriatic. Take a vaporetto over to the island and spend the morning relaxing on the beach, you can rent a cabana (huts with thatched roofs) before doing a spot of shopping and tasting the local cuisine.

Acqua Alta

High tide in Venice is known as acqua alta, and if you’re unprepared for it your feet can get wet. The local Venetians know when it’s coming and carry around their wellies in preparation. Sometimes the water can flood most of the city, other times only the lowest areas are flooded. It can be a problem for the boats trying to get under the bridges so check out the tide times for the days you will be in Venice if you want to stay dry!

Arts and Crafts

In Venice, you have a chance to buy beautiful handmade goods without breaking the bank. Remember that in Venice there is no added tax since it is already added into the price so you can negotiate prices in the shops. There are many different types of shops selling crafts ranging from carefully stitched linens to jewellery and artwork to decorative carnival masks – you can usually see the craftsmen making products you can buy.

If you really want to enjoy your trip to Venice, don’t forget to take out your cheap holiday insurance as soon as you book your trip. It is important that you remember to check that your cheap holiday insurance policy offers you the level of cover that you need for your break before you buy it.

I’ve been fortunate enough in life to have earned enough money to be able to enjoy a bit of luxury in old age. At the age of fifty I retired, and three years later I bought a beautiful villa timeshare in Europe.

Now I love holidays as much as the next man – sun, sea, senoritas! What’s not to like?! But I’m getting to the age now where a trip abroad is filled with more stress than enjoyment. I have to organise the rest of the family, organise myself, book the cats into a cattery, the dogs into kennels, I have to have a friend watch the house, get someone in to do the garden, I have to pack, I have to buy new things every year for the holiday, I have to get insurance, I have to get the car serviced before I drive to the airport – the list of things to do goes on and on, it’s exhausting thinking about it!

Well, last year I came to a decision. It was time to sell the timeshare. It broke my heart to tell myself this, but it just didn’t make sense anymore. We weren’t using it enough to justify owning the place. The only problem would be shifting it, or so I thought. I found a great company called El Cid Vacationswho would take all of the stress out of the sale. They would show people around, look after the whole shebang. Al I had to do was sit back and wait for the money to fall into my account, and that happened in no time! What’s more, I actually made a decent profit on the place! We got a much better deal selling the place and it turns out it’s enough for me to indulge another of my whims – a nice shiny new convertible for those glorious summer days!

Lanzarote is the third most popular and visited Canary Island. The seven strong island group that is owned by Spain but located off the coast of West Africa. Which welcomes well over a million foreign tourists every year – the majority flying in from the UK, Eire and Germany.

Of the three main holiday resorts on the island Playa Blanca, the newest, is the fastest growing. Thanks to it’s winning combination of great beaches, excellent accommodation and wonderful microclimate. Which blesses this part of the island with the best weather Lanzarote has to offer – especially during the winter months.

Indeed until as recently as the 1990´s Playa Blanca was a quiet and quaint little fishing village. Whilst other resorts to the north such as Puerto del Carmen were already well developed. But the potential of the area was always obvious to property developers and hotel chains as Playa Blanca enjoys a fairly well sheltered position on the island’s south east coast and boasts wonderful beaches – such as the coves and bays of Papagayo.

Historically the village had also long been the gateway to the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura too – with regular ferry services crossing the Bocaina Straits. Strict planning laws on the island were relaxed in the 1990’s allowing development of Playa Blanca and today the resort is the second most popular holiday destination on the island.

There´s an excellent choice of hotels in Playa Blanca for tourists to select from. The majority of these enjoy four-star status and are located on the main seafront promenade, which stretches from one end of the resort to the other. Such as the Hesperia Playa Dorada and the Timanfaya Palace. Both of which offer rooms from as little as €70 per night.

Greater luxury is also available at the five star Gran Melia Volcan – which is situated right next to the stylish Rubicon Marina development towards the west of the resort centre. Which is a great place to enjoy an atmospheric meal out against the backdrop of expensive yachts and upmarket shops.

Many tourists eschew hotels and book their own villas in Playa Blanca direct online. With hundreds of privately owned properties available for rent across the resort. Expect to pay upwards of €350 per week for a standard villa with pool, depending of course in the time of year.

Playa Blanca is also handily located for touring the islands number one tourist attraction of the Timanfaya National Park. Which is just a ten-minute drive away. Car hire in Lanzarote is very cheap and there are plenty of rental offices in Playa Blanca for visitors to chose from.
