Love Never Dies
This hotly anticipated sequel to the epic Phantom of the Opera has had Andrew Lloyd Webber fans on tenterhooks for months now. Opening dates have been habitually rescheduled, but the West End debut is now set to open in February 2010. Love Never Dies fast forwards ten years from the dramatic events at the Paris Opera House as leading lady, Christine Daaé discovers the identity of her masked impresario – the ‘Phantom’ of the Opera. Set to be another box office smash for Andrew Lloyd Webber, make sure you book fast to avoid disappointment.
The Wizard of Oz
You may have to wait a little longer for this classic Hollywood remake, but as another Andrew Lloyd Webber offering, we have no doubt it will be well worth the wait! What makes it even more exciting is that it is to be cast via a television talent search – Webber’s fourth to date, and it has been reported that Webber has won the rights to add new songs to the original 1939 score so as to make it into a complete stage musical. There are even rumours that daughter of the original Dorothy character, Liza Minnelli, is set to be a judge on the TV panel. We can hardly wait!
When Harry Met Sally
Returning to the stage is this rom-com classic which will star former Corrie actor, Rupert Hill and ex-Hollyoaks actress Jayne Dunn as the leading roles. The story follows the trials and tribulations of two New Yorkers as their friendship grows, raising the ultimate question “can men and women really just be friends?” Featuring plenty of comedy moments and that famous café scene, it will have you entertained from beginning to end. Having already toured the UK in 2005, the new stage version kicks off at Wakefield’s Theatre Royal from the beginning of February and will tour the UK and various locations just outside the capital until June.

A Trip to Alicante?

A few years ago myself and a few friends decided we needed to get away from it all. We didn’t have all the money in the world, we didn’t have weeks and months to travel across the globe, but we had the spirit of adventure and a weeks holiday booked off work for the middle of July!
There were several options available to us. We figured that we had about three hundred pounds each for travel and about five hundred each for spending when we got to wherever it was that we were going to go! My friend Mike wanted to hire a camper van and head across the channel to france, but three of us got seasick and one of us got car sick so that ruled that one out! I suggested Greece but I knew before I even said it that none of us knew a word of Greek, and none of us had ever been out there before.
As usual, it came down to the level headed Richard, who of course had spent hours and days researching every last possible destination and cost online. Rich had deduced that from our bodget, and our requirement of hot beaches, hot bars and cheap food and drink it really had to be spain. He’d seen some really well priced flights to Alicante and he’d found three places for us to stay within a mile of the airport! This was music to my ears since I had grown up at school speaking Spanish. I don’t know how I had overlooked it – Spain was one of the most beautiful countries I had visited and Alcante was the best area of all far as I was concerned! Richard had spoken – and so it was decided. We would head to Alicante and flee the wet drissly British Isles for some fun in the Sun!
