Great days out in the Midlands
The Midlands is the heart of the UK. And it’s safe to say that with so much to see and do, you’re sure to love a day out there. In fact, there are so many great activities for the whole family, the hard part is deciding where to go first.
For most, Alton Towers Resort is the No.1 choice. After all, it is the UK’s largest theme park, well known for its amazing thrill rides and splashing water park. What some may not be aware, is that is also offers a luxurious spa and two fun-packed themed hotel. What’s more, it is also home to an award winning Midlands conference centre, so even business people can enjoy the thrills on offer.
And if thrills are your thing, then leave the comfort of terra firma behind and take to the trees with a trip to Go Ape in Channock Forest. A high-wire adventure for the whole family, you can climb a 40ft rope-ladder, Tarzan-swing into a giant rope-net, zip-wire through trees, crawl through tunnels and more. With three hours of crazy canopy capers to enjoy, you’ll soon discover if you’re the next Tarzan in the making.
For those who love taking to the air, but prefer to travel at 10,000 feet rather than 40ft, there is the Midlands Air Museum. With an amazing range of both civil and military aircraft spanning over seventy years of aviation history, you can even climb up steps and see into the cockpits of some of the aircraft. As well as planes, there are also helicopters and the Sir Frank Whittle Jet Heritage Centre which celebrates the life and work of the Coventry-born engineer who invented the jet engine.
You may prefer to take a leisurely step back in time by visiting Iron Bridge Gorge, the home of the Industrial Revolution which changed the world 300 years ago. Fun and informative, there is a range of ten award-winning museums to visit. For example, you can experience the past at first hand, with a trip to the Blists Hill Victorian Town which brings Victorian life to life. Then, why not visit Coalport China Museum, renowned as one of the country’s finest porcelain manufacturers and the Jackfield Tile Museum with its gas-lit galleries and period room settings.
