I am about to book flight & car rental through priceline. I have never purchased travel insurance so I have questions.

What illnesses qualify for cancellation insurance? I am concerned with the flues that are going around since I am going to visit my grandmother.

If you do get sick, how do you prove you are sick?

If you meet the above requirements, how hard is it to get the actual refund?

I have a relative looking to visit me here in the USA. They have obtained all of the required visa and documents to travel. The airline though is asking them for travel insurance information. They claim that people have to have insurance before they can travel. Is this true? I know when I travel internationally, I do not have to get anything.
